Everyday I Read The Book.

The one where I recommend some great thrillers for your summer reading game.

I love to read. Always have. I tend to gravitate towards murder/mystery/thrillers but every once in a while I'll change it up and grab a cute, comfortable romance novel. I'm not sure why I'm drawn to stories that raise my blood pressure right before I'm supposed to relax and go to sleep, but that's how I roll.

If heart-pounding tales are your jam as well, have I got a post for you! Below are five great reads (in no particular order) to keep you company this summer. Reserve, purchase, or download your copies today!

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Have you ever needed extra money and thought about donating blood or participating in a scientific experiment? Well, that's the exact situation Jess Farris finds herself in. As a struggling makeup artist living in an expensive city, she needs some extra cash to help make ends meet and support her family back home. She's got a sister with special needs, a situation she's partly responsible for, so when she accidentally sees a message on a client's phone reminding them of their appointment to participate in a psychological survey the following morning and earn a load of cash, she decides she's going to show up, take the survey, and get some money. Easy peasy, right? Wrong. The questions are intense and invasive and she winds up developing an awkward and dangerous relationship with the doctor behind the study. This one will definitely have you thinking hard about how far you'd really be willing to go for the almighty dollar.

Friend Request by Laura Marshall

Ever do anything in your past that you regret? Something so terrible that the guilt is crippling and impacts every aspect of your life? Louise did. Back in high school, she and her clique did something awful to Maria. And to make things worse, Maria died as a result of what they did. Or did she? Because now it's more than 25 years later and Louise just got a Facebook friend request ... from Maria. How is that even possible? The only way to find out is to read the book! Note: this book bounces between 1989 and 2016 so if that's not your thing, you should avoid this one.

Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman

If you can only read one book this summer, this should be it. First line of the book: Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave?

I mean ... wow. If that doesn't pull you in, I don't know what will.

Erin has everything. She's a documentary filmmaker and just married Mark, the man of her dreams. Now they're off to Bora Bora for a magical honeymoon.

Bitch.

While scuba diving, they find ... yes, you guessed it ... something in the water. A bag. Containing something I won't reveal, but it's big. Now the question is, do they tell anyone? If they stay quiet, their lives could be changed forever. But if they tell anyone, their lives could be forever changed in a whole other way. What follows is a series of the absolute worst decisions ever to be made by a literary character. How? How does someone consistently make the wrong decision every single time??? It's equal parts maddening and enthralling. This was one of the most breathtaking, compelling reads. Ever. No lie.

The Girls Are All So Nice Here by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn

We need to talk about what we did that night.” Yeah. Nothing good ever follows that line. NOTHING.

Two former best friends, Amb and Sully, return to college for their reunion only to find that they’re being stalked by someone who wants revenge for what they did ten years earlier. Which, you know, was something terrible. And this person will stop at nothing to get it. If Mean Girls and I Know What You Did Last Summer met, got married, and had a baby, it would be this book. I don't normally like books that feature bullies, especially female ones, but this story is so well told that I couldn't put it down. I finished it in two days.

The Cipher by Isabella Maldonado

At the age of sixteen, Nina Guerrera managed to escape from a serial killer — one who was never caught. Years later, and now an FBI Special Agent, she gets jumped while out on a run in a Virginia park. A video of the attack goes viral and, unfortunately for her, the man who abducted her eleven years ago is watching. Now he's on a mission to reclaim the one that got away. He commits grisly murder after grisly murder in an attempt to pull her into the investigation. His use of coded riddles makes him a social media superstar, and gains him the nickname 'The Cipher,' but Nina isn't intimidated. She's going to bring him down if it's the last thing she ever does.

This is the first in what appears to be a series by the author, an actual graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico and the first Latina to attain the rank of captain in her police department. Her follow-up is due out this August, so you have plenty of time to read this one.

Those should keep you busy for a while. Or, at least for a few weeks if you blow through books like I do. Is there something gripping that you've read lately? Something you think would be right up my alley? Let me know. Leave a comment below or shoot me a message. I'd love to hear from you. Cheers, and peace out until next time.
